What: Dr. Sinigayan: What life is like after Med School!

Date: 2/23/2010 (THIS TUESDAY!!!)
Time: 7pm-8pm.
-- Come hang out with a UC Davis Medical Center Intern! Dr. Sinigayan has completed medical school and is currently interning at the UC Davis Medical Center. This is a fantastic opportunity to find out what med school is like and what life will be like after you graduate. We will have delicious desserts and you will get the opportunity to get to know this inspirational doc! Hope to see you there! General meeting credit will be given :)

What: Interview Workshop!!!
Where: Wellman 125
Date: 2/24/2010 (THIS WEDNESDAY)
Time: 6pm-7pm
-- The long-awaited interview workshop is here! We will be going over crucial interview skills, not only for basic interviews, but for medical school interviews as well. There will be exciting individual and group activities which will help you polish up the way you present yourself at an interview. This is a great opportunity for everyone! General meeting credit will be given.

In order to be an active member, you must attend one general meeting, one community service event, and one workshop (or second general meeting). Thanks to everyone who has remained active so far!

PHYSICIAN SHADOWING PROGRAM


Are you interested in shadowing a physician? We're doing preliminary sign-ups to see how many people would be interested in shadowing a physician at some point over the next few quarters. You would not be committing yourself to anything by signing up. We're just interested in getting a rough estimate for how many people would be interested in such a program.
NOTE: If you signed up on Friday, November 20's general meeting with Dr. Baldwin please do NOT email us. You are already accounted for. As the details of the program firm up, we'll be getting in contact with everyone that signed up.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

What: Cupcakes For A Cause  

Where:The Silo, UC Davis campus

Date: 02/23/10 - 02/25/10 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)

Time: 11:00 a.m -3:00 p.m.

-- Pre-Med AMSA will be selling cupcakes to promote homelessness awareness. All funds raised from this event will be donated towards making homeless care packages that will be distributed within our community. Volunteers will be assigned shifts to sell cupcakes during the three-day bake sale. Take a break from studying for midterms and come out to help support the cause!

Community service credit will only be given to those who sign up for two hours or more. Each shift will run for one hour.

What: Ronald McDonald House

Where: 2555 49th Street, Sacramento

-- The Sacramento Ronald McDonald House is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help children and their families by providing an atmosphere where families can rest, reflect, and find mutual support. This home-away-from-home provides shelter and comfort to families who must travel to the Sacramento area in order to receive medical treatment for their child. The House offers family members of seriously ill and injured children a refuge from the hospital setting. Volunteers will be helping out with the maintenance of the House that day. If you'd loved to get involved with a great charity, this event is for you!

Yolo Wayfarer Free Community Give Away]

Where: 201 Fourth Street, Woodland CA 95776 (Meet at the ARC 7:30am Shift 1, 10:30am Shift 2)

Date: 02/27/10 (Saturday)

Time: Shift 1) 8:00-11:00am; Shift 2) 11:00am-3:00pm


-- Yolo Wayfarer is a Christian Mission that guides, feeds, and shelters homeless individuals and families of the Woodland community for over 23 years.  For every last Saturday of each month, Wayfarer holds a free Community Give Away that includes donated food, clothing, and household items not in use.  As a volunteer, you'll help guide each person through the masses of viable goods.  The giveaway will be 10:00am-2:00pm, and lunch will be provided.  The people at Wayfarer "believe that as we share from our abundance, what we need will be given to us."  Take a break from studying, and sign up for this interactive, inspiring event from a different perspective.  Community service credit will be given, and you'll be left with stories to be remember long after midterms are over.  Priority will be given to drivers.

What: Medical School Shadow Day!!

Where: UC Davis Medical School

Date: 02/26/10 (THIS Friday!)

Time:  10:00am- 2:00pm  

-- Do you want to know what it is like to be a Medical Student for a day?!

 Then join us on Feb. 26 for a Medical School Shadow Day at UC Davis Medical School from 10:00am to 2:00pm. You will have the amazing opportunity to meet with medical students, attend their lectures, and get answers to any of the questions that you might have about med school!

**Space is LIMITED so if you are interested please email Niaz Mohammadi at nmohammadi@ucdavis.edu by Thursday Feb. 25 th. In your email please include your name, phone number, and if you will need a ride. If you would be willing to drive, please include how many people can fit in your car.

 

What: Bone Marrow Registry Drive

Where: MU tables

Date: 03/01/10 (Monday)

Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Number of Volunteers needed: at least 5

--Be the Match Registry is a national registry that helps find matches for people diagnosed with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases. Joining the registry is as easy as swabbing your cheek with a cotton swab and filling out a short form. Many people are unaware of how easy it is to join the registry, and the purpose of this drive is to help inform unaware students of how easy and important it is to be a member. Volunteers will give basic information to students and help give instructions on how to join the registry.
